File Compression & Encryption:

Our file compression and decompression tests were split into two halves to cover a broad spectrum of performance. The first test we ran was to compress and encrypt the MPEG-2 source file from our video encoding test with the highest quality compression ratio. Secondly, we compressed and encrypted the folder of 400 photographs used in our Photoshop Elements test with the same compression settings.



In large file compression, the extra speed has a more positive impact than in photo or video encoding, providing an actual notable 15 seconds for the Crucial and 22 seconds for the Corsair. Interestingly the overclocked Corsair matches the time of the overclocked Crucial, even though the Crucial has a faster clock. Small file compression doesn't offer the same performance benefit with only a very small difference across the board.

File Decompression & Decryption

The two RAR archives created during the compression and encryption tests were then decompressed and decrypted.



Extra memory bandwidth or lower latency doesn't help decompression times in large or small file much at all, across the board.
